The World of Coffee – Large Handmade Wooden Chopping Block
The World of Coffee – From Plant to Cup
A big block of timber with an even bigger story!
Originally part of a kitchen worktop, this substantial piece of reclaimed wood was given a completely new life at Embergrain Studio.
Believed to be oak, the heavy wooden block has been transformed through detailed hand-burned pyrography into a celebration of coffee and its journey around the world.
The artwork follows coffee from plant to cup, featuring coffee-growing regions, a world map, coffee plants and beans, a traditional grinder, a sailing ship and the stages of preparing the perfect brew.
Its size and weight made this one of my more challenging pieces to decorate, as I had to repeatedly move the block to achieve the right angle for the detailed wood-burning work.
And there's a little reminder of its previous life: a curved cut near one corner where it once fitted around a kitchen sink. One eagle-eyed visitor at my first craft fair even spotted it!
